And the Beat Goes On

Has your heart ever raced really fast? Now I am talking like REALLY fast. Like you think it is going to pop out of your chest? Well...that happened to me the other night only I couldn't get my heart rate to slow down. I woke up at 10:00p.m. with a racing heart rate of about 200-250 beats. We were fixing to go to the ER when it converted back to sinus rhythm on its own. I decided not to go to the ER because I was not having any symptoms and they couldn't do anything for me if it wasn't racing. The next day I called my primary care physician and she ordered some labs and an EKG and a 24 hour holter monitor, which is a monitor that stays on my body for 24 hours and monitors my heart hence 24 hour holter monitor. Anyways, the labs were all normal and so was my EKG. We got the results back of my holter reading on Wed. night and it showed SVT, which is supraventricular tachycardia, sinus arrythmias, and an interventricular pathway defect.

I know, sounds horrible doesn't it? Truth is, it's not that bad. Yeah I freaked but that's just me. Being a nurse is horrible when it comes to your health and sometimes ignorance is bliss. I am scheduled to go see a cardiologist next week and we will figure out what to do then. I don't feel any different and I honestly don't ever feel when my heart is acting up, except for that one incident. The treatment for this is either medication, nothing or a little procedure called an ablation. None of which are too terrible bad. I appreciate all of the prayers and if you would continue to pray for me as I go to the cardiologist.

Thanks again!

Hey, SVT is better than A-fib. Who are you going to see?
